XPAN 2.0 TECHNOLOGY
HEAT AND SLIP-RESISTANCE OUTSOLE
HEAT RESISTANCE
The XPAN 2.0™ outsole is built from a specialized rubber compound engineered for smelting and metallurgical environments. It maintains its structure and traction under direct heat up to 538 °C (1000 °F), resisting deformation when exposed to hot surfaces or molten splash. Certified to ISO 20345, XPAN 2.0™ delivers proven durability where ordinary outsoles break down.
SLIP RESISTANCE
Designed for industrial precision, XPAN 2.0™ features a multi-directional lug pattern that maximizes surface contact and channels fluids away to maintain grip. It’s certified across CSA Z195-14, ASTM F2913-23, and ISO 20345 slip-resistance standards delivering dependable traction on wet quarry tile, stainless steel, and ceramic surfaces.
To evaluate slip resistance, we use the SATRA TM144 method on dry and wet quarry tile as well as stainless steel. This test measures the dynamic coefficient of friction at both the flat and heel areas of the boot. The results below show how the outsole performs under each condition.
| Dry Quarry Tile | Flat 1.18 | Heel 1.27 |
| Wet Quarry Tile | Flat 0.6 | Heel 0.58 |
| Wet Stainless Steel | Flat 0.72 | Heel 0.86 |
To evaluate slip resistance for the U.S. market, we use the ASTM F2913-23 test method. This standard measures the dynamic coefficient of friction on surfaces such as dry and wet quarry tile and stainless steel. Results are collected at both the heel and forefoot to reflect realistic walking conditions.
| Dry Quarry Tile | Forepart 1.28 | Heel 1.32 |
| Wet Quarry Tile | Forepart 0.52 | Heel 0.51 |
To meet international slip resistance requirements, we use the ISO 20344 test method (Section 5.11). This procedure measures the dynamic coefficient of friction on ceramic tile surfaces contaminated with water and detergent, simulating realistic slipping hazards. Measurements are taken at both the heel and forefoot to reflect true walking conditions.
| Glycerol on Ceramic | Flat 0.30 | Heel 0.31 |
| Sodium Lauryl Sulfate on Ceramic | Flat 0.53 | Heel 0.55 |
Proven Molten Metal Performance
Complete Molten Metal Protection
Heat-Resistant Foundation
The XPAN 2.0™ outsole withstands molten splash and direct contact with hot surfaces without deforming or losing traction. This is critical when footing and stability can’t fail under extreme heat.
Flame-Resistant Construction
Built with flame-resistant full-grain leather reinforced by K2™ KEVLAR™ stitching, the upper resists ignition and tearing. It preserves the boot’s structure and the worker’s safety in high-temperature zones.
CERTIFIED PROTECTION
Complete Metatarsal Protection System
REALFLEX™ External Metguard
The REALFLEX™ metguard is a high-performance external shield that protects the metatarsal zone against falling tools, heavy machinery, and molten splash. Its ergonomic flex design moves naturally with the foot while maintaining full protective integrity. This ensures reliable protection without sacrificing mobility or comfort, supporting critical maneuverability in confined or high-heat environments.
NANOTOE® Composite Toe Cap
This advanced nanotube composite toe cap delivers certified impact and compression protection with a thinner, lighter build than traditional caps. Designed to protect the front upper portion of the foot, it works in tandem with the REALFLEX™ metguard to form a complete safety system. Its slim profile ensures space efficiency and lasting comfort without compromise.
SHIELDED COMFORT
All-Day Comfort Without Compromise
Polyurethane Midsole
Delivers superior shock absorption and long-lasting cushioning that reduces pressure on joints and supports your stride through every shift. Its responsive, anti-fatigue properties are ideal for hard surfaces and demanding industrial conditions.
OrthoLite® Insole Comfort
Breathable comfort, the OrthoLite® insole keeps your feet cooler, drier, and reduces foot fatigue. Its low-compression design resists flattening over time, offering consistent comfort throughout the day.
Wide Adjustable Fit
Featuring the SPACE-R™ insert and a generous toe cap design, this system lets workers fine-tune their fit for all-day comfort. It reduces pressure points and adapts to changes in foot shape over long hours, without sacrificing safety.
