It was in 1934, between the two world wars and in an unfavorable economic climate, that Louis-Philippe Royer began making boots in his small Lac-Drolet workshop. When faced with difficulties, he rolled up his sleeves and pushed on. Hard work didn't scare him! From its earliest origins, the ROYER brand has embodied “We are Work Boots,” guided by founding values such as perseverance and rigor. “Do the right things,” “Do things right,” and “Give the extra effort”, as Louis-Philippe used to say, are the principles that shape our organization and guarantee ROYER quality to this day.
Since 1934, many things have changed. Our technologies are more advanced, our products more durable, and our ambitions greater than ever. However, one thing remains deeply rooted: our desire to continue developing and producing high-quality products here in Canada.
Still in operation today, the founding plant in Lac-Drolet initially specialized in the vulcanization of thermosetting rubber. With the XPAN process, the company has developed dual-density rubber soles, reinforcing its manufacturing expertise.
In 2008, the introduction of an imported collection brought new momentum to the company. Then, in 2019, ROYER inaugurated a second plant in Sherbrooke, dedicated to polymerization, where our boots labeled "Assembled in Canada" are produced.
More recently, in 2024, a third plant was opened in Magog, specializing in the manufacture of high-performance thermoplastic elastomer (TPR) boots.
Three Types of Production
At ROYER, we distinguish three product categories: “Made in Canada”, “Assembled in Canada”, and “Imported”. This hybrid approach allows us not only to maintain over 120 jobs here in Quebec, but also to remain competitive, preserve our footwear expertise, and guarantee top-quality products to our customers.
For all three product categories, our Research, Development, and Innovation team designs the technical drawings, shapes, and patterns of all our products, and ensures that the best materials and manufacturing techniques are used.
You can easily find the category of each of our products on our website, along with access to its technical data sheet.
Made in Canada
Products labeled “Made in Canada” are designed and manufactured in their entirety, from the sole to the upper, at our Lac-Drolet plant. These are mainly specialized products, where our expertise and know-how enable us to manufacture high value-added items for specialized sectors.
Our manufacturing process comprises over 120 steps, divided into 8 main categories: technical drawing, shaping, patterning, cutting, assembly, mounting, fitting, and finishing.
Assembled in Canada
Products labeled “Assembled in Canada” are those for which part of the manufacturing process is subcontracted to our international partners.
An assembled product requires just as many steps and as much rigor as a product entirely made in Canada. Our Research, Development, and Innovation team handles the technical drawings, shape, pattern, material sourcing, quality control, and field testing. Meanwhile, our production team ensures the soling and finishing processes. Cutting, assembly, and part of the construction are carried out by our international partners, always under our supervision.
Imported
Products classified as “Imported” are labeled “Designed in Canada and manufactured in the country of origin.”
As with the other types of products, our teams handle technical drawings, shape, pattern, material sourcing, rigorous quality control, and field-testing coordination. Our partners take care of cutting, assembly, construction, soling, and finishing, always under our supervision.
Our Expertise
At ROYER, our commitment to innovation and quality is reflected in each of our product categories. Whether through our boots entirely made in Canada, our models assembled under our supervision, or our imported products designed with the same attention to detail, we strive to provide durable and high-performance gear.
Thanks to this hybrid approach, we combine local expertise with global competitiveness while maintaining our commitment to our workers and customers. Explore our full range on our website and find the boots that meet your needs.
